Looking Player Character Feedback

First off, I made two other posts a few weeks ago and totally forgot to set them to public. So those are up now. Additionally I'm working on expanding the combat system and with that I'm reworking some of the player race options and wanted to get some feedback on what people would want to play.

I have a strawpoll up https://www.strawpoll.me/20264499 with a few races, ideally pick your top 4. I'll likely start off the alpha with 4 main player races and expand those as the game develops. The way I have combat and character system set up should mean I can pretty easily add and tweak player races as the game goes. Which means the 4 initial races will almost certainly get expanded over time.

I'm also super open to suggestions so please feel free to drop a comment here if there's a race or creature you'd want to play and don't see it on the list.

Thanks for the help!

How about adding gnolls as an option? Also, haven't played the last update yet but version 1.4-a is looking pretty good

I'll probably add gnolls in some capacity eventually but they're just... they're really hard to draw so I've been putting them off XD

Yeah that makes perfect sense. Your art style is amazing though so I'm sure once you figure out how to draw the gnolls they'll turn out amazing

Thanks, I really appreciate it ^^

Never thought kobold be this popular. XD

And I want to ask how player race affects gameplay? Will it be mentioned in certain scenes? Or drastically change some of the mechanics? Like if you're a goblin you can wander in goblin camp without being attacked?

Kobolds and demons are much higher then I was expecting, there was a stretch Orcs and Gargoyles were top 4 too.

Mechanically race will affect your starting stats, giving a small boost to one of the four stats. You'll also get a different set of starting combat actions that reflect your race and stat boost. This is all the easy stuff that I'll be able to add in pretty easy once I finish fleshing out some more combat actions (which have been updated pretty heavily so far).

As for narrative influence. I'd like to have your race give you unique dialogue options. I'm working on some stuff right now related to that actually. Though because I'm currently the sole writer, artist and programmer I don't expect dialogue changes to make huge changes. It (probably) won't influence things enough that you can bypass questlines. Though it may make things easier. Once I start fleshing things out more I'd like to add unique dialogue options in certain situations. So if you're an orc and you talk to another orc you might pick up on some extra information or maybe even increase their opinion of you a bit more.

Glad to hear!

I actually worried about you might go for the drastically change, since the amount of work behind it might burn you out. I thought making race work like starting class in souls games is good enough--you start with various stats/gears, but nothing long-lasting. That way you can save a lot of time and energy for something else. But unique dialoge options is great! It will surely enhance the role-playing experience, and replayability! Please don't overwork yourself!

Also it's interesting cause I'm not a huge kobold fan but I still picked kobold on instinct. Maybe there's not enough games featuring kobold as playable races so everyone dumped their favorate race and go for cute kobo? XD

I'll do my best. I do tend to over extend myself and get a little over my head. But I think it should be okay if I take it a thing a time. The race as a starting class in Dark Souls is a pretty good comparison actually. Any skills you don't start with here you'll be able to learn or find in other locations in the game. And the stat bonuses will be minor enough that you shouldn't have to grind your way up to compensate.

Kobolds have been getting a lot more attention lately and getting a pretty big niche fandom around them. So it kinda makes sense. I just didn't realize it had gotten this deep. You might be right that the cult following is just chopping at the bit for a kobold game.

(1 edit)

By "Anthro Fish", you mean sharks or actual fish on legs?

Like an anthro shark or maybe a murloc

Ah I see, so my assumption was correct :)

Thanks for clarifying!

Do demons imply angels?

Possibly, I'm mostly trying to stick with more monstrous creatures in general. But I might throw them in at some point.

The vote is quite as expected(ㆆᴗㆆ)

Definitely isn't going the way I was expecting

Demon always has huge fans in erotic games. And lots of us is anthro canine afterall. Also, Kobold is the closest to dragon.

What is a Hyconid, though?

Myconid's are shroom people.

Aaah. Okay, thanks!
